Natasha Shelokova is a Toronto-based full-time artist of Ukrainian background who has lived in Toronto for more than 20 years. She has known since childhood that she wanted to be an artist. Trained in architecture and interior design, she built a career as an interior designer with a well-established Toronto design firm. Although art had always been her passion, in 2014 she decided to change her life and pursue painting as a full-time career.

Natasha is a member of the Association of Ukrainian Artists of Canada. Throughout her artistic journey, she has explored various approaches to painting, initially working primarily in traditional styles and focusing on portraits, landscapes, and cityscapes. After completing her studies at Milan Art Institute, her artistic practice underwent a significant transformation, opening up new possibilities and bringing her work to a new level of expression.

Today, Natasha works in the style of Abstract Realism, exploring the compelling dialogue between structured geometry and organic, untamed forms. Through a layered mixed-media process, finished with oils, she creates complex, richly textured surfaces that reflect the tension between order and chaos. Her paintings combine carefully considered compositions with dreamlike imagery, bringing together multiple perspectives and unexpected relationships within a single visual space.

Her process begins with dreamlike and fantastical ideas, which she develops into multidimensional compositions. She builds texture and depth using collage and modeling paste, then introduces layers of spray paint and acrylic to establish the underlying structure and atmosphere. She completes each painting with oils, bringing luminosity, depth, and a sense of life to the surface.

Each work emerges from a balance between control and surrender, where deliberate planning meets spontaneous expression. Through her paintings, Natasha hopes to invite viewers into a deeper connection not only with the imagery before them, but also with something more fundamental within themselves. The intricate layers and evolving details encourage viewers to slow down, breathe, and discover something new with each moment of contemplation.
